DAY OF ARRIVAL DETAIL
Here are a few things for your arrival and you can also check out our local guidebook on the listing for ideas of things to do or message us at anytime.
Car Rental: We highly recommend a 4WD/AWD vehicle for mountain driving during the winter.
Quick tip: Grab groceries on your way in Conifer. It will save you a bunch of time.
Directions: Before leaving the airport or starting point, enter our home address into your rental GPS or your phone's Google Maps for the best directions (475 Holmes Gulch Rd. Bailey, CO 80421). We are about 1 hour 20 minutes from the Denver Airport. It is a beautiful drive so try to drive during the day! Expect to go from Highway 285 to a paved road to a dirt road. You will have spotty service in the last 20 minutes of your drive but Google will keep the directions. Look for the wooden post with "475" and the paved driveway.
If you are travelling during snowfall, we will work to have our driveway plowed. However, if you run into troubles depending on your car contact us for assistance - 262-385-6094.
Private Entrance: Drive up to the double car garage and align your car to pull in on the right door. There is a keypad on the door the right of the garage. Self check-in code will be provided closer to your stay as we change codes. Turn by turn driving instructions can be provided on request.

DAY OF DEPARTURE DETAIL

-
Place all trash in bins and additional trash bags in the garage.
-
Place dirty dishes in the dishwasher and run.
-
Consolidate and put used towels in laundry room. You can leave sheets on beds.

HOT TUB PREPARATION - Plan ahead, It takes 1.5 - 2 hours to heat up
-
IMPORTANT: This hot tub is wood burning. We cannot stress it enough, do not take chances with fire safety. You can see the burn scars in the neighborhood on your way to the cabin. We take fire safety extremely seriously. If you are unsure or have any questions, call or text 262-385-6094. We are more than happy to help!
-
Step 1: Make sure the hot tub is filled. It should be but just check. If not, give us a holler.
-
Step 2: Lift up and open the metal fire box door. Load two big logs inside the box and kindling in the middle (DO NOT USE PAPER - kindling = small wood pieces or bark).
-
Step 3: Use the propane lighter (blue cylinder looking thing) to light the kindle on fire. To start the lighter, twist the black nozzle to allow gas flow and click the red button to light. You may have to click the button multiple times. There are also spares propane tanks in the upstairs closet to the left of the kitchen.
-
Step 4: A good measure is to see that the larger wood has set on fire. It may take a couple tries, be patient. Once lit, close the fire box door completely and keep the exterior slots open for airflow. You can also leave the hot tub cover on.
-
Step 5: Let the water heat up and check every so often to make sure the fire is going. There is an orange thermostat that will read the temperature of the water (it is on the stairway bannister in the home). You want the temperature to be between 95-100 degrees F. If you get higher than that, please shut the slots on the fire box and open the top. The water can get too hot which is not good for you or the hot tub, please be careful.
-
After you have read above (2 min) - VIDEO INSTRUCTIONS
-
FREEZING TEMPERATURES: If the outside temperature is below freezing and you have not used the hot tub please make sure the deicer is plugged in and in the water. It looks like a black UFO and may be in the water when you arrive - reach out with any questions.

HOT TUB RULES
-
MANDATORY: Please take a shower before use! No face makeup, lotion, sunscreen, or deodorant in the hot tub! Water is a scarce resource in Colorado and cleaning to refill the hot tub is not a good use of it.
-
Use shoes or sandals to get to the hot tub and brush feet off before hopping in.
-
Be careful drinking by the hot tub. No glass near the hot tub.
-
Drink plenty of water! Sitting in the hot tub can be dehydrating.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR ENTERING THE TUB
-
Unbuckle the straps on all sides of the tub.
-
Flip one side over first.
-
Go to the other side and pull the cover towards you and place it onto the ground against the tub.
-
Remove shoes / sandals before getting in.
-
Complete a safety one toe test before hopping in and enjoy!

INSTRUCTIONS FOR LEAVING THE TUB
-
If the water starts to cool, you can add more wood.
-
Get your sandals on and dry off.
-
Tiptoe to the cover. Grab the bottom in the center, lift up and over onto the tub.
-
Flip the other side over and clip the buckles on both sides.
-
DO NOT leave the hot tub without covering it.
-
NOTE: If you have a longer stay and it is below freezing, please place the black UFO heater thing into the hot tub and plug it in. Reach out to Mark with any questions on this!

10 ACRES TO EXPLORE
We are fortunate to own 10 acres of mountainside. This is available for both cabins to explore. There are a couple boulder sets up the mountainside and to the left of the Cabin in the Sky. Take a look at the map below. Feel free to wander but please be respectful of the neighboring homes - we all live out here to have privacy and quiet. There is also wildlife you may encounter: mule deer, fox, bear, and more. Most will scare off if they see you but be alert.

HEATING THE HOME
-
The home has electrical heating boards throughout. There are thermostats in many of the rooms. It can get toasty just by setting them to 60 degrees. DO NOT move them beyond 75 degrees and DO NOT place objects near the electrical boards to avoid fire risk.
-
Wood Burning Stoves
-
WARNING: THE STOVE GETS HOT DO NOT LET YOUNG CHILDREN TOUCH!
-
HOW TO START: Patience is required but many like the challenge. First consolidate kindling in the bottom center inside the door. Stack and stagger wood over the kindle. The kindle will be used to help catch the wood stack on fire. When the fire starts to catch, you can close the door with an inch left for airflow. When the fire is hot and rolling, then shut the door.
-
HOW TO STOP: Let the fire take its course and burn down. Keep the door shut. DO NOT dump water in the wood burning stove.
-

-

COOLING THE HOME
-
Summary: It can get hot due to the altitude and windows in the upstairs. Most mountain homes like this one do not have AC. Use the methods below to keep airflow and cool.
-
Open doors on both ends for good airflow and slide the screen doors to keep out any animal visitors. There are some local dogs that show up to say hi.
-
Turn on the ceiling fans for more airflow.
-
Open windows for additional airflow.
