Timeline of Cozy Nook Cabins

I had a boss remind me to look back at what was accomplished. I was always so focused on what didn't happen according to my plan. So this timeline is maybe not for you, it is selfish in a way - to remember and recognize effort and progress. However, for those interested in this type of journey - per usual - there is much between the lines but you will see flashes of hard work, pure luck, and unusual risk tolerance. November 2019 - Mark and Bianca decide to rent the first floor of Cabin in the Sky! We have no idea where to start so we started with research and taking a leap.

January 2020 - The first floor refurnishing is complete and the listing is available to rent.

March 2020 - The impact of COVID hits Colorado - rentals shut down for a few months. I learned a lesson - there are things out of our control and to have a backup plan. Fortunately real estate lends many options.

June 2020 - Bear 🐕 (our German Shephard mix) runs away. Mark contacts our neighbors to find Bear and hear they are selling the adjacent land to Cabin in the Sky. Bear comes home after exploration - happy as a clam with stressed out parents. A couple days later Mark and Bianca start the purchase of the additional land (Mark's dream to "own land" has been checked off - still wants a horse though ...).

July 2020 - Bookings start to pickup and Airbnb releases COVID instructions for hosts. Nurses 👩‍⚕️, teachers 👨‍🏫, and more book the first floor to find escape from tough work.

November 2020 - Cozy Nook Cabins, LLC is planned to be created on the first of 2021!

December 2020 - Mark and Bianca decide to find a fixer upper and fully rent Cabin in the Sky. Why not add another project??

January 2021 - Mark and Bianca close on a new home 🏠 less than 10 minutes away and move Cabin in the Sky to be a fully rented home. Cozy Nook Cabins becomes an LLC and is official!

February 2021 - Moving transition and painting started on the new home! Also, Mark and Bianca go into saving mode for needed contracting work.

July 2021 - Mark writes a handwritten letter 📮 to check-in on the elderly neighbors of Cabin in the Sky (hadn't seen them in months and were not answering their phone). Their daughter replies they are doing well but will need to sell the cabin (Cabin in the Bear's Den).

August 2021 - After scrambling to finance an off-market purchase of the cabin, the deal closes in August. Mark changes jobs from Partner at a midwest professional services firm to part time consulting and focusing on Cozy Nook Cabins! Another lesson, don't ignore your mental health - this was a crazy time.

September 2021 - Cozy Nook Cabins website is setup and ready to go 🔥.

October 2021 - Light renovations on Cabin in the Bear's Den are in full force - carpeted bathrooms are hopefully a thing of the past!

February 2022 - Cabin in the Bear's Den is listed on Airbnb and VRBO! Both homes are up and running. Mark and B decided to chill the F out for a bit - except for the whole thing where Bianca goes back to school (super proud of her - 🌱 she wants to help save the world).
